Lillington United Methodist Women

The Lillington United Methodist Women are proud to be members of the largest organized group of women in the world.  The Lillington unit was organized about and has been active since then.

The unit meets quarterly for mission study, devotional time, discussion and study of Christ-centered projects from around the world as well as wholesome fellowship.

The United Methodist Women is a community of Women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative and supportive fellowship and to expand the concept of mission through participation in global ministries of the Church. The group is especially interested in ministries to children and young people.

All women of the church, including children and youth and women who are non-members of the church but are participating in the life of the church are welcome to join this local unit.

Food Distribution

There are hungry people in our society.  The church collects and distributes food throughout the community several times a year as seen in the photo above.  One of the ways we serve God is by following the example of Jesus, who fed the hungry.

Fall Festival

The Fall Festival is a traditional way of remembering the bountiful harvest with which we are blessed.  It is a good time for children (of all ages!)

Christmas Contada

The Christmas Contada is a community-wide introduction to the Christmas season.  Singers and other musicians from across the Region encourage the entire community not to forget the true meaning of Christmas.  The large attendence requires two seperate presentations.

Bible Study

Growing in grace is important for serious Christians.  A special Bible Study is held twice a year.  The next one is planned for mid-September.

Healing Service

About once every three months our church conducts a Service of Divine Healing.  These are announced in the worship service, in the bulletin and on the sign board placed temporarily at the front of the church building.

It is our intention and hope that in hosting these special services we increase our awareness of God’s power and grace.  The Book of Worship of the United Methodist Church speaks of Divine healing in these words.

Spiritual healing is God’s work of offering persons balance, harmony, and wholeness of body, mind and spirit, relationships through confession, forgiveness and reconciliation…. The New Testament records that Jesus himself healed the estranged and sick and sent his disciples on ministries of healing.  James (5:14-16a) calls us to pray for and anoint the sick that they may be healed.

All healing is of God.  The Church’s healing ministry in no way detracts from the gift God gives through medicine and psychotherapy.  It is no substitute for either medicine or the proper care of one’s health….

Healing is not magic, but underlying it is the great mystery of God’s love.  Those who minister spiritual healing are channels of God’s love.  Although no one can predict what will happen in a given instance, many marvelous healings have taken place.

God does not promise that we shall be spared suffering but does promise to be with us in our suffering.  Trusting that promise, we are enables to recognize God’s sustaining presence in pain, sickness, injury and estrangement.

Likewise, God does not promise that we will be cured of all illness; and we all must face the inevitability of death.  A Service of Healing is not necessarily a service of curing, but provides an atmosphere in which healing can happen.  For the Christian the basic purpose of spiritual healing is to renew and strengthen one’s relationship with the living Christ.

Scholarships

The Lillington United Methodist Church takes seriously its ministry to children and young adults.  In support of this ministry the church provides two scholarships each year to encourage college education and to support participation therein.

These scholarships are made possible by endowments established by former and current members.
